TV Gardener Uses Viagra to Give His Plants Extra "Perk"

I’m sure this is exactly what a man who’s dealing with sexual performance troubles is thinking about when he pops a couple Viagra pills. It seems however, that male genitalia isn’t the only thing that the magical little blue pill can perk up. According to Metro, British TV gardener David Domoney has discovered it’s also a handy little way to give flowers some extra life. He claims that a dash of Viagra keeps his cut flowers alive for an extra week or so.
“You only need a tiny amount of Viagra to stiffen things up nicely,” he told Metro. “Just 1mg of Viagra – there are 50mg in a single Viagra tablet – dissolved into water with your plants will make them last a week long.”
One of Viagra’s key ingredients is nitric oxide, which relaxes the muscles and allows blood to rush to a specific area men may be having trouble with. Apparently, another effect nitric oxide has is slowing down a plant’s dying process. Metro also notes that scientists were looking into a plant version of Viagra to market to gardeners.
According to the Daily Mail, Domoney has found a variety of other unlikely household products that help boost the health of plants. Although none of them seem to be as powerful as Viagra, he claims that Vodka will prevent algae from turning the vase water green, beer works as a great slug trap, spraying a deep heat muscle relaxant on a tea bag placed in the garden will keep cats away, and Coca-Cola is a great fertilizer.
Good to know plants are benefiting from our lives of alcohol and sex, but I’m not sure I like how plants continue to display similarities to us. First the reaction to music and love vs. anger, and now our sex drugs work on them. I hate to give M. Night Shyamalan credit on anything, but maybe the plants are capable of some kind of revolution. Jokes aside, this is pretty interesting and while the younger crowd using Viagra is probably sure to get right on sharing it with their plants, maybe some of the older Viagra users and their spouses will be a little more excited by the drugs new found abilities.
