Former Williamsburg Viagra Factory Now Home to Kombucha Cocktails 2012-07-24
By Virginia K. Smith

The former Pfizer plant on Flushing avenue in Williamsburg has already been home to more, shall we say, Williamsburg-y manufacturers for a while now — Kombucha Brooklyn, Brooklyn Soda Works, McClure's Pickles, and Steve's Ice Cream all run operations out of the building that once brought you Viagra and Claritin.

Now it will also house Kombucha Party, a manufacturer who hopes to make kombucha cocktails a thing. Since it's still probably better for you than most pharmaceuticals, we'll come down firmly on the side of 'eh, why not?'

“Kombucha’s been around since 212 BC, and it was known as the immortal elixir,” said Brett Casper, founder of Kombucha Party. “It’s supposed to detox and eliminate toxins from your body, and the pro-biotics are said to center your chi, by creating a positive environment in your intestinal tract [...] It’s very conducive to partying, because it contains glycolic acid and it’s just basically believed to make the liver more efficient, so drinking kombucha with cocktails is a smart idea.”

You heard it here first, adding booze to your fancy health drink is a great, healthy idea. Drink up!

As such, Casper is throwing a party to raise money and awareness for his fledgling company. Taking place at the Awakening NY Wellness Center, the event will include, "4 healing rooms," "fortune telling by Sparkles Callahan," "Tibetan Bowl Sound Therapy," and music courtesy of "DJ Krunk Pony." Also an open kombucha bar.

The only thing particularly surprising here is that he hasn't already found a way to join forces with that bar-slash-yoga-studio in Bushwick. When will these two crazy kids find each other?
